Your Privacy Matters
At usie, we believe your memories belong to you and your partner — nobody else. This policy explains how we handle your data with care and respect.
Information We Collect
Account Information
When you sign in with Apple, we receive:
- Your email address (if you choose to share it)
- Your name (if you choose to share it)
- A unique identifier for your account
You also provide:
- Your display name
- Profile photo (optional)
- Birthday (for personalization)
- Relationship start date (for milestone tracking)
Photos & Videos
The photos and videos you capture are stored securely on our cloud servers. This includes:
- usies — photos taken together with your partner
- twosies — separate photos that pair with your partner's
- Time Capsules — videos locked for future viewing
- Captions and life event tags you add to photos
Your content is completely private. Only you and your connected partner can see your photos and videos. We do not view, share, sell, or use your content for any purpose other than displaying it to you and your partner. No one else — not even us — has access to your memories.
Face Detection Technology
Important: usie uses Apple's on-device face detection technology for the "usie" (together) camera mode. Here's what you need to know:
- Purpose: To verify that two people are in frame before capturing a photo
- How it works: The app counts the number of faces detected by the camera — it does NOT identify who the faces belong to
- On-device only: All face detection happens entirely on your device using Apple's Vision framework. No facial data is ever sent to our servers
- No storage: Face detection data is processed in real-time and immediately discarded. We do not store, retain, or share any facial detection data
- Not facial recognition: This is face DETECTION (counting faces), not facial RECOGNITION (identifying people). We cannot and do not identify individuals
Push Notifications
If you enable notifications, we use OneSignal to send you alerts when:
- Your partner posts a photo
- A time capsule is ready to unlock
- Your partner joins usie
- Streak reminders (if enabled)
We store a device identifier (OneSignal Player ID) to deliver these notifications. You can disable notifications anytime in your device settings.
Data Storage & Security
- All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and at rest
- Photos and videos are stored in secure, access-controlled cloud servers
- We use industry-standard security practices to protect your account
- We never sell your data to third parties
- Only you and your connected partner can see your shared content
Third-Party Services
We use trusted third-party services to provide usie:
- Authentication: Sign in with Apple for secure login
- Cloud Storage: Secure servers to store your photos and videos
- Push Notifications: To alert you when your partner posts or a capsule unlocks
- Payment Processing: App Store for subscription purchases
These services only receive the minimum data necessary to provide their functionality. We do not sell your data to any third party.
Your Rights
You have full control over your data:
- Access: View all your photos and account information in the app
- Delete: Remove individual photos, capsules, or your entire account
- Export: Your photos remain accessible as long as you have an account
Account Deletion & Reactivation
When you delete your account:
- Your account is immediately deactivated (soft delete)
- Your profile will appear as "Deleted" to your partner
- 30-day grace period: If you sign back in within 30 days, your account will be automatically reactivated with all your data intact
- After 30 days, your account and all associated data (profile, photos, videos) are permanently deleted from our servers
- Permanent deletion cannot be undone
Partner Privacy
When you connect with a partner:
- Your partner can see photos you share together
- Your partner can see your profile name and photo
- If you disconnect, shared content remains visible to both parties unless deleted
- Your partner cannot access your private account settings or email
Children's Privacy
usie is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us.
Changes to This Policy
If we make significant changes, we'll notify you through the app or via email before the changes take effect.
